SCHEDULE:

TUESDAY, SEPT 2

Visceral Composition with Body Cartography- 10am-12pm
We will mine the materials of our bodies to generate material for our dance making. We will cultivate a vitality of presence, embodied intelligence, creativity and organization to put guts in our dancing and our mind in our bodies.  Together we will build scores for performing solo, duet and group dances. In addition we will investigate what the subtle state based tools of embodied anatomy can offer to our performing practices.Tuesday's class will have a focus of the pelvis.Thursday's class will have a focus on the torso.

Rhythmic Exploration and Improvisation with Aleutian Calabay- 5:30-7pm
Does the word “improv circle” in tap class make you want to run for the hills? Then, this is the workshop for you!  Taught by professional tap dancer Aleutian Calabay, this workshop will focus on giving you tools and confidence to make it through a jam alive – you may even have some fun! We will work on rhythmic rudiments, phrasing and musicality, developing a “pocket-step,” and finding your voice as a tap dancer. Sometimes we think too much, don't think, just come! Beginner and intermediate levels are welcome.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT 3

Contact Improvisation after "Chute" with Hijack- 10am-12pm
"Chute" is a 10 minute film — an exquisite document of the birth of Contact Improvisation. There is something uniquely beautiful about Paxton, Lepkoff, Smith, etal tumbling in the unknown. What do we do when we wonder if the best dancing ever happened in 1972? Can we put this great example to great use? In this class, we'll get the mats out. We will or wont watch the video. We will cultivate amnesia, documentation through dancing, puppy piles. This Wednesday morning workshop kicks off HIJACK's 15th continuous year of weekly Improvisation classes at Zenon.

RSVP: A Dance Improvisation Workshop w/ Dustin Haug- 5:30-7pm
Dancing is a primal urge.  It is a response to a deep, instinctual desire to move and directly experience physical space, tap into a range of energies, and explore time.  Also, dancing is a whole ton of fun!  Join Dustin for a playful evening investigating and delighting in the art of solo, duet, and group improvisation.

THURSDAY, SEPT 4

Visceral Composition with Body Cartography-10am-12pm
We will mine the materials of our bodies to generate material for our dance making. We will cultivate a vitality of presence, embodied intelligence, creativity and organization to put guts in our dancing and our mind in our bodies.  Together we will build scores for performing solo, duet and group dances. Adaptation with Jason Noer- 5:30-7:00pm
B-Boy J-Sun takes you on a journey that explores the unpredictable world of music in public spaces. We get to pick the music that we dance at home or in the studio, but what happens at the nightclub? Come learn about the Hip Hop mindset that allows for a dancer to be comfortable in any situation.

FRIDAY, SEPT 5

Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) with Morgan Thorson
In this class, we will  explore movement that is inspired by guided  poetic imagery, as well as hands-on work called partner graphics.  These modalities  release hidden tensions in the body, trigger energetic states and deepen our relationship to our imagination. We will also begin to understand how our thinking and pre-conceived notions about movement  block physical integration and alignment.  With greater kinesthetic awareness , we will tap into our primal, natural grace and loose inhibition.  This class is open to anyone who wants to move.
