Calendar

Winter classes are now in session.  Drop-in students are welcome in all classes.

Beginning 1
Jennifer’s beginning jazz dance class will blend classical and contemporary styles while incorporating various rhythms and diverse music selections.   Ethnic styles, clean alignment, and individual expression will also be addressed with an emphasis on the enjoyment of an American art form: Jazz!  The class structure will include an extensive warm-up with strengthening, stretching, and lengthening exercises, followed by progressions across the floor isolating various body movement, finishing with a jazz combination incorporating the movement learned in class.

Day/Time: Tuesday 5:30-7:00 pm
Instructor: Jennifer Glaws

In Mackenzie’s adult beginning jazz class, students will explore skills such as isolation, rhythm, flexibility, alignment and individual expression. The class will include a warm-up involving strengthening and stretching exercises, as well as proper technique and alignment. Next, the class will work on specific skills and combinations that travel across the floor. The class will finish with a combination that will challenge students to learn long phrases of material, while allowing them time to explore the movement and enjoy finding their own way to fulfill the dance. Mackenzie incorporates classical style jazz, lyrical style jazz, and musical theater style jazz into her final class combination.

Advanced
Jeffrey Peterson teaches a class that is heavily influenced by his professional work with Danny Buraczeski, but draws upon his study and expertise in ballet and modem as well. It explores jazz's vernacular and African roots and promotes easeful muscularity, within a rhythmic, isolation-based vocabulary and jagged lines. The entire session will trace the progression of jazz from the early years of Broadway, thru the swing era, the 60's, disco, Michael Jackson, and early hip hop, as well as explore blues-driven jazz and Latin-infused jazz.

Day/Time: Fridays 9:30-11:00 am
Instructor: Jeffrey Peterson - NEW TEACHER!
